Thanks to @AmberMac‘s free giveaway down at Yonge and Dundas Square today, I get to hear my tunes through some sweet new Denon earbuds. She’s a gem, and the she-nerd I aspire to be.
Coming through those Denons (with some fabulously good boom from such little tikes) is my new addiction…
Meet Pretty Lights: cross-genre, soul-inspired, hip-hop-electronica blends. Sorry I can’t condense that into less words, I don’t really know how else to describe their nuggets of ear joy. Produced by Derek Vincent Smith and his current drummer Adam Deitch, Pretty Lights have been wooing ears through donation-optional downloads of their music for the last year and a half. Smith uses samples of other audio, but mixes them with his own beats, creating a smoother sound than other sample-based producers I’ve heard (ehem, Girl Talk, you irritate me. Get some cohesion.)
They’re on the bill for Bonnaroo this year too. Wish I wasn’t broke. *Shoulder-heaving sigh*
“Finally Moving” is what got me hooked, based on an Etta James song, it’s delicious. Downloads available through the links below!
